Former El Paso Locomotive Diego Luna was a stunning omission from the United States World Cup roster, as reports indicate he is being left off the roster in favor of Gio Reyna. The official roster is set to be released Tuesday, May 26, at a nationally televised event in New York City, but was leaked by numerous outlets Saturday, starting with The Guardian. El Pasoans Ricardo Pepi and Alejandro Zendejas , as expected, made the 26 player roster that will participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The attacking midfielder, who was sold by El Paso to Real Salt Lake in what was at the time a record-breaking USL-to-MLS transfer in 2022, has scored four goals for the USMNT since his debut in 2024 and has scored four goals for Real Salt Lake this season. He was left out for Reyna, who has not started a game for his German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach since December.
