Vincent Kompany has brought FC Bayern back to where it belongs

This means more than just one more trophy. It means that, for the first time in SIX years, since the 2020 Sextuple, FC Bayern have actually managed to win a domestic double. Vincent Kompany therefore becomes the first coach since Hansi Flick to win multiple major trophies in a single season, which had once been a habit for the German giants.

Just to underscore the insanity of this stat, the last time Bayern Munich won the DFB Pokal: Everyone was stuck inside during a lockdown. Bayern Munich went on to win the Champions League, and later a sextuple. Schalke were still in the Bundesliga.

And, uhh… Okay, so maybe the all-encompassing global pandemic cast a shadow over proceedings last time. Which just means that this time, fans can actually bask in the glory and enjoy the win with the players. It’s just a shame there will be no Marienplatz celebration after this, because the players will head off straight to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
