Kyle Juszczyk says this Brock Purdy trait doesn't get enough credit

The 49ers' fullback has seen Brock Purdy develop into one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.

Kyle Juszczyk is one of Brock Purdy's most fervent supporters . But after their seasons spent playing together, the San Francisco 49ers fullback thinks there's one part of his quarterback's game that still doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show , Juszczyk said Purdy's processing ability and pocket presence are what make him such an ideal signal-caller in Kyle Shanahan's offense.

However, Purdy's ability to sit and read progressions in the pocket before making the right decision is a trait that keeps getting slept on. "He can sit in the pocket, he can do things in progression, but if he needs to run around and buy some time, I think he's one of the better guys in the league at doing it," Juszczyk said. "Because he also keeps his eyes down the field as he does it.

I love that part of Brock's game. " Juszczyk's point is that Purdy does it consistently and naturally, which separates him from quarterbacks who either take off running or panic when the pocket breaks down. He also noted that Purdy has matured to the point where he pushes back on Shanahan during games, contributing to in-game adjustments rather than simply executing the play call.

For a quarterback who still has skeptics, the fullback who lines up next to him every day seems to have no doubts. Purdy is heading into 2026 coming off a season in which he continued to establish himself as one of the NFC's better quarterbacks. This past year, he was injured and missed eight regular-season games before leading the 49ers to the NFC Divisional round.
