Departing Silva honoured by Manchester City ahead of final match Manchester City have honoured captain Bernardo Silva ahead of his final match for the club. The Portuguese star, who departs the Citizens after nine trophy-laden years, was presented with a mosaic by Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak ahead of his final game for the club against Aston Villa on Sunday. Silva joins former City players including Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and David Silva on a list of those recognised with a mosaic, created by local Manchester sculptor and City supporter Mark Kennedy.
The mosaic, situated beside the men’s first team training pitches, was inspired by Silva’s second goal in City’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid in the semi-finals of their 2022/23 Champions League campaign, which they would go onto win. Al Mubarak said: “Bernardo’s contribution to this football club over nine seasons has been one of constant excellence. “He has imposed expectations on himself and his teammates that have been a continuous reminder of what is possible.
His intelligence, humility and extraordinary professionalism have underpinned so much of Manchester City’s success in that time. “Whether as player or Captain, he has always led by example – committed, intelligent and with extraordinary skill. Always with a relentless appetite to do what was required to make the difference.
“He leaves sharing the status of the Club’s most decorated player. Even more significantly, he leaves with the universal respect and love of the whole City Family. ” Silva add: “My period at City means the world to me – it’s been nine amazing years.
