Latest NCAA Tournament projections for Tennessee baseball
Tennessee baseball coach Josh Elander returns to the dugout after taking out pitcher Taylor Tracey (29) in an NCAA college baseball game against and Texas on May 10, 2026, in Knoxville, Tennessee. | Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The SEC baseball tournament came and went for the Tennessee Vols, with an 8-4 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks sending UT home early from Hoover back on Wednesday. Not surprising, as the Hogs are starting to heat up, and…well…Tennessee can’t seem to beat Arkansas when they play lately, so, yeah.
So, with the Vols’ resume now finished, where will they open up the NCAA Tournament next weekend? It seems all but a lock that the Vols will be a 2 seed at this point, and likely a lower one. However, Baseball America and D1 Baseball are currently split over just where the Vols would be slotted as a 2 seed.
BA’s Saturday update has Tennessee going to Chapel Hill against North Carolina, their No. 4 national seed. D1’s most recent update on Friday has the Vols at 10 overall seed Southern Miss.
Those…are starkly different picks. Going to Hattiesburg would be a significantly less difficult hill to climb than going to North Carolina, who could be one of the top candidates to make a run at the national championship this year. I could see Tennessee in either of those spots.
The Vols finished with 16 SEC wins – including the SEC tourney – and have been playing their best baseball over the second half of the season. Late season series wins against Texas and Oklahoma, with an April series win over Alabama, should help their cause. While I could see them a number of places, I do think I’d be a bit surprised to see them slotted in at Georgia Tech, particularly if the Jackets win the ACC tourney and clinch the No.
