Boston scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and led 6-3 going into the seventh inning, when Justin Slaten came into the game. Slaten has been dominant this season, but he struggled on Friday as he allowed four runs in 0. 2 innings, giving up a pair of two-run home runs to Byron Buxton and Austin Martin.
It was a frustrating result for Slaten, who said he just didnโt have his stuff as he normally does. โJust one of those nights,โ Slaten said postgame on Friday. โI've been feeling really good, and then tonight, just didn't have much stuff.
Sometimes you just gotta go out there and try and battle with what you got, and it didn't go my way. โ Slaten had been dominant this season, as Boston has turned to Slaten, Garrett Whitlock, and Aroldis Chapman in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to close out games. Yet, on Friday, the Twins were able to get after Slaten.
