Jersey's women won the Muratti Vase for a 17th time [BBC] Jersey won the Women's Muratti Vase for the first time since 2023 as they beat Guernsey 6-1 at Springfield. Jersey needed just 10 minutes to take the lead, with Leah Morris calmly slotting home after being put through by Anita Tavares. Tavares was the provider for Jersey's second goal 23 minutes later, when she pounced on a defensive error and played in Roisin Flynn, whose low shot from the edge of the box beat keeper Emma Queripel at her near post.
Flynn turned provider four minutes after the interval when Jersey went 3-0 up. She sped down the right wing and cut the ball back for captain Holly Sundby to score from a couple of yards out. Sundby made it 4-0 10 minutes later when her sister Tiff's cross from the right was poorly cleared and Sundby fired home from 12 yards out.
Holly Smith headed in for Guernsey from a corner a minute later, but it was no more than a consolation for the Sarnians. It should have been 5-1 to Jersey with 17 minutes to go when Tavares put Shana Dolbel through on goal but she lifted her shot over the bar, while Tiff Sundby went close moments later. Guernsey women beat Jersey to retain Muratti Vase Jersey Bulls Women win league title in style Holly Sundby's goal early in the second half ended any hopes of a third successive Muratti Vase win for Guernsey [BBC] Dolbel made no mistake eight minutes from the end when she slotted home Tavares' low cross at the far post to put the result beyond doubt.
Tavares got the goal her performance deserved in the fifth minute of stoppage time as she slotted home after good work by Sam Silva Pinto. The win ensured Guernsey missed out on winning a third successive Muratti for the first time since the fixture's early history - the Sarnians won the first five matches between the islands from 1997 to 2001. Since then, Jersey have had the upper hand, winning 16 of the 24 meetings between the two islands, including 10 in a row from 2009 onwards.
