Should Houston Look to Make Any Big Moves This Offseason?
Despite trade rumors swirling, Houston may find greater success by trusting their core stars and rising guard depth rather than gambling on a blockbuster roster shakeup.
Every trade I see just makes me realize that I think the team would be better off if they kept Kevin Durant on the roster. In all reality the team didn’t have a bad season. They had a terrible postseason, as recapped on Roundtable .
The Rockets had a few unfortunate injuries, and one of them happened to be to their best player, right when the playoffs started. If they want to look on the bright side, they just got unlucky. That makes this trade proposed on SpaceCityScoops a bit of a reach for me.
While the Nuggets might be desperate to make any and every move to retain Nikola Jokic and get back into championship contention, this doesn’t seem like the move for either team. Swapping Kevin Durant for Jamal Murray just seems like throwing two names together for the sake of it. Considering the difference in salary, Houston would have to add another five million dollars or so for an even financial trade.
Houston’s guard depth is already getting a boost with the return of Fred VanVleet and presumed improvements continuing to come from Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard. That really complicates things with three starting caliber guards, plus Sheppard on the rise. Not to mention Durant’s scoring being the only thing to keep the Rockets afloat through many different parts of the season.
