If nothing else, they'd like the shortstop to add some versatility. Volpe is going to start getting practice reps at second base on days he isn't in the lineup to play shortstop, according to reports on Friday. On top of that, Volpe is an inconsistent fielder at shortstop. It seems that sometimes he butchers the easy plays, which is obviously not ideal. The Yankees already have an established second baseman, Jazz Chisholm Jr.
