The San Antonio Spurs have now dropped back-to-back games to the Oklahoma City Thunder following their 123-108 defeat in the Western Conference Finals. The last time the Spurs suffered consecutive losses was from Jan. 11-13, when they also fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Thunder.
The Thunder's aggressive and disciplined defensive approach has disrupted the Spurs’ offense, limiting their transition chances and easy scoring opportunities throughout the series. Amid the discussion surrounding the Thunder’s defense, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took a shot at Thunder MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over his foul-drawing tactics. “SGA’s signature move is the offensive foul push off into a pump fake that gets the defender in the air that he then jumps into them and ends up at the free throw line.
He gets them every time,” RGIII tweeted. RGIII later said in another tweet that the push-off creates separation and forces defenders to overreact, eventually baiting them into fouls once they leave their feet. Gilgeous-Alexander was flawless at the charity stripe, knocking down all 12 of his free-throw attempts.
