Ty Simpson 'didn't care' about criticism of Rams drafting him
The Rams rookie knows the only thing he can control is what he does on the field.
When the Los Angeles Rams selected quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL draft, external debates immediately ignited across the sports media landscape. Many questioned why the front office used such high draft capital on a quarterback when Matthew Stafford is still firmly entrenched as the starter.
Simpson, though, said he didn't care about the outside noise surrounding where he was drafted. In an interview with Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated , the former Alabama signal-caller made it clear that he isn't wasting any energy on the outside noise or the opinions of draft analysts. “I really didn’t care, to be honest with you,” Simpson said in response to critiques around how early he was drafted.
“Everybody can have an opinion, but it’s my job to take care of my business. So, the Rams took me with the 13th overall pick, so now it’s my job to be the best player I can be, the best Ty I can be, and go out there and prove them right. I don’t really listen to all that.
” That focus on taking care of business was evident when Simpson admitted he was actually hesitant to leave team organized team activities (OTAs) to attend the mandatory NFLPA Rookie Premiere in the first place. He noted his primary concern was "getting pulled away from my team and not understanding everything and not being there learning. " The benefit of where Simpson was taken is that there is no expectation that he will need to produce results immediately for the Rams.
