Jake Crain of On3 explains why Byrum Brown is 'perfect' for Auburn
Jake Crain of 'Crain and Cone' explains how Byrum Brown can boost his stock this season after recently ranking him No. 8 among SEC quarterbacks.
Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown brings plenty of experience to the Plains, but he has not faced SEC defenses consistently, which could require a period of growth. Which is one reason the guys from Crain and Cone put Brown in the No. 8 slot in their preseason ranking of the 10 best SEC quarterbacks ahead of the 2026 season.
Crain and Cone , a digital show produced by On3 with hosts Jake Crain, Blain Crain, and David Cone, recently ranked the top 10 projected starting SEC quarterbacks, with Auburn's next quarterback fitting in the lower tier of the rankings ahead of Mississippi State's Kamario Taylor and Missouri's Austin Simmons, and one slot behind multi-year starter Marcel Reed of Texas A&M. Although Brown is ranked No. 8 in the show's list, he is expected to be the most productive quarterback Auburn has put on the field in a few years.
Jake Crain explains to Auburn Wire why he thinks Brown will thrive in orange and blue. "I think he is the perfect fit for what Auburn is going to run," Crain said of Byrum Brown. "Taking advantage of spacing and being able to utilize a true QB run in the box should help him out as a passer as well.
" The silver lining of Brown's low expectations for the season is that he will have ample opportunity to improve his stock as the season continues. Crain says that Brown will need to execute the simple aspects of his game to end the season ranked higher than those ahead of him, including Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss and new LSU transfer Sam Leavitt. "For Brown to have another banner year, itโs going to start by being able to make his layups," Crain said.
