Yahoo Sports

The Washington Huskies football program extended an offer to one of the top wide receivers in the 2028 class from Maryland on Monday.

The Washington Huskies ventured back east to offer four-star St. Francis Academy wide receiver Samir Edwards on Monday. Edwards, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore from Baltimore, Maryland, is the No.

6-ranked recruit from the state in the 2028 class, per 247Sports’ rankings, and the No. 147 overall recruit in next year’s cycle. Since 2023, UW has offered at least one high school football prospect from the Free State, according to 247Sports’ database, though the program hasn’t signed a recruit from the state since the 2015 class, when safety Ezekiel Turner, who played at Glen Burnie High School, joined the team out of Pierce College in Los Angeles.

While it’s not hard to see why Fisch and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings are joining the race for the ‘28 Maryland star, it’s still yet to be proven if the staff can get recruits from East Coast states to make official visits and ideally sign with the program on an annual basis. Getting in early as the No.
