He was named Canada’s best player after he contributed a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win against Slovenia.

“It’s not easy for him, and maybe he’s not always taking a regular shift when he’s in, but he’s really enjoying being around the group and he’s learning a lot, being a sponge,” Canada’s John Tavares told the IIHF website. “I’m thrilled for him to get on the board and be named Best Player of the game. ” After Sidney Crosby was a late addition to the roster, Finnie was the odd man out on Canada’s roster.

He was scratched in the first two games against Sweden and Italy, only played four shifts in a 5-1 win against Denmark, scratched in the 6-5 shootout win against Norway and then found himself the offensive catalyst in Canada’s 3-1 win against Slovenia. Finnie won the Best Player Award playing just seven shifts in the game for a total of 5:57 on the ice. He is getting more done with less time.

In Case You Missed It Michael Brandsegg-Nygard is joining Norway and Eduards Tralmaks is headed to play for Latvia at the World Championships. Red Wings would like to see Lucas Raymond be in the league’s top 50 for shots on goal. Will the Red Wings trade prospect goaltender Sebastian Cossa?
