Texas A&M ranked as one of of the 'most complete' teams in 2026
CFB analyst Brooks Austin ranked Texas A&M as the 8th "most complete team" entering the 2026 season.
Texas A&M's 2026 offseason has not created many storylines, which is exactly what third-year coach Mike Elko wants. After leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history in just his second season, Elko is looking to capitalize on last year's historic 11-0 start, but is wholly focused on finishing the year much stronger after ending the season with consecutive losses to Texas and Miami in the CFP. Making it back to the College Football Playoff will be extremely tough given the challenges of the 2026 schedule, featuring road games against LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma, and after earning a 7-seed in the CFP with just one regular season loss, on the road against the Longhorns, finishing 11-1, or 10-2 is likely the only path for a postseason return to come to fruition.
While this is applicable to every Power Four program in the country, Texas A&M's 2026 roster isn't lacking talent or depth at nearly every position, and is built to make a postseason run, led by redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. However, after a record ten players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including unanimous All-American edge Cashius Howell, and reliable run-stopper and senior DL Albert Regis, the 2026 Aggies defense will heavily rely on sophomore edge Marco Jones, Northwestern transfer DE Anto Saka , and former North Carolina defensive lineman CJ Mims to take over the pass rush/run defense duties. Still, senior DL DJ Hicks will be heavily relied on to lead the defensive line before heading to the NFL this time next year.
After reviewing the Aggies' Maroon & White spring game, college football analyst Brooks Austin placed Texas A&M has his 8th "most complete team" heading into the 2026 season, and for those who have not watched his Texas A&M spring game breakdown, here is the link.
