Broderick Jones opens up about Steelers' declining fifth-year option, Max Iheanachor pick

Yahoo Sports

Steelers OT Broderick Jones discussed Pittsburgh’s first-round selection of Max Iheanachor and Pittsburgh's decision to decline his fifth-year option.

With Broderick Jones' NFL future hanging in the balance, the Pittsburgh Steelers had no choice but to decline his fifth-year option and draft a major player in his succession plan. But Jones is taking a team-first mentality amid the fluid situation. Speaking with reporters at OTAs, Jones made it clear that he harbors no ill will toward the Steelers following the first-round selection of offensive tackle Max Iheanachor , choosing empathy over bitterness.

"It's all a business at the end of the day," Jones said via C hris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune. "I'm coming off a neck injury. Nobody knows what the future holds for me.

Of course, they have to do what they do to protect themselves at the end of the day. I don't have any ill will or anything toward them. " He also added that he'll help out Iheanachor in any way he can, which is an admirable mindset considering the first-round rookie is seemingly a huge part of Pittsburgh's replacement plan for Jones.

We at Steelers Wire wish Jones a speedy recovery from the significant neck injury he suffered in 2025, hopefully giving way to an offseason positional battle at offensive tackle.
