Matthew Stafford's new deal could impact Commanders, Jayden Daniels

•Yahoo Sports

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is eligible for a contract extension after the 2026 season.

Did the Rams just provide another indicator toward Jayden Daniels' next contract? The Commanders quarterback is now moving toward his third training camp with Washington. Daniels' 2024 season was spectacular, while his 2025 season was very unproductive: he was injured, missed time, and the offense was hampered by receiver injuries.

The Rams' starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, was the MVP for the 2025 season. Understandably, the Rams want Stafford locked up, so the two parties agreed to a one-year extension. Reports are that the deal is for one year and a $55M base salary, with a possible $60M if incentives are met.

According to Over the Cap , Dak Prescott leads all NFL quarterbacks with a contract averaging $60M per season. The new agreement for Stafford adds $55 million in new money for the additional season, bringing his total remaining contract value to up to $105 million. Stafford had been under a contract that would make him a free agent after the 2026 season.

So, what does this mean for Jayden Daniels? Daniels has the opportunity to vault up into the highest ranks of NFL quarterback salaries if he has a good third season. Daniels' first NFL contract carries him through the 2027 season.
