FISH/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Oklahoma Sooners are a defensive school now, and they send defensive players to the NFL Draft all of the time. The Oklahoma Sooners have made it very clear they are now a defensive team. A few years ago, if you said that out loud, you would be laughed out of.
This program went from always having an elite offense to always having an elite defense. And with that has come elite defensive talent, and defensive talent they have put into the NFL. Most notably, it feels like they are sending elite edge rushers to the draft.
Everyone knows about Denver Broncos edge rusher Nik Bonitto, who is one of the very best in the league. Now, R Mason Thomas is on the Kansas City Chiefs. Next year, Taylor Wein will be on an NFL team.
The year after that, it will probably be someone else, and so on. There's a trend here, and the Sooners have decided to try to continue to repeat that. They could possibly do that with one of their more recent recruiting offers.
