Peoria Notre Dame, Morton, Dunlap girls soccer teams capture regional championships
Peoria Notre Dame won a Class 3A regional title while Morton and Dunlap won 2A regional titles. Here's how they did it and what's next.
PEORIA — The Notre Dame High School girls soccer team moved up into IHSA Class 3A competition this season, and on Friday they moved right on into a regional championship. The Irish hammered Joliet West, 7-0, in the Class 3A Moline Regional title match at Browning Field. It marked the first regional championship in 3A for the program.
Notre Dame (22-0) advances to the Normal Community Sectional semifinals at 5 p. m. Tuesday, where they will face the winner of the Minooka Regional title match between Minooka and East Moline.
Morton 4, Richwoods 0 The Potters got all four goals from Claire Ceresa to beat the Class 2A Richwoods Regional hosts for the title. Morton rolled to a 22-1-1 record with its fourth straight regional championship and 17th consecutive shutout, the latter tying an IHSA record.
