🥎Game of the Day COVENTRY - After transportation issues, the Pilgrim softball team knew it was going to be leaving Coventry late on Friday night. It just wasn’t expecting it to be as late as it was. The Patriots came off the bus swinging, then watched as the Oakers made their five-run lead disappear.
In the 10 th inning, with the international runner in play, Anna Bryson came through with a bloop single to give 10 th -seeded Pilgrim the lead for good in a 7-6 win over No. 7 Coventry in the single-elimination round of the State Tournament. Pilgrim and Coventry were set to start at 5 p.
m. , but bus issues didn’t get the Patriots to the field until after the scheduled start time. Pilgrim warmed up fast and didn’t look any worse for wear, getting two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Bryson and Skylar Hawes , manufacturing a run in the second and getting two more in the third on a Gretchen Dombeck double.
