Softball: Arcanum bats reign in D-V district title win over Williamsburg

May 22—Four days of sitting in the dugout, watching the sky, getting to play a few innings, only to repeatedly be told you'll have to come back tomorrow could have weighed more on Arcanum. It did on the coaches. Mike Morris wanted another day to be able to prepare his squad for its next game in the district championship round.

The players proved they were itching the whole time to just get a chance to swing the bat with no interruptions. Arcanum burst out of the gates to a quick lead, added on from there, and steamrolled its way to a 21-0 win against Williamsburg and claim a Division V district title on Friday, May 22, at Valley View High School. "We jumped on them early and we never let off at all," Morris said.

"I mean, we stayed on them the whole game. " The team's district semifinal game against Anna was supposed to take place Monday, May 18. It was pushed back to Tuesday, May 19, and it got into the sixth inning with Arcanum leading 4-2 before storms suspended the game.

More weather Wednesday, May 20 did not allow for a resumption until the next afternoon. When the game finally got underway again, it felt like anything could occur. "Those last three outs last night were probably the most nervous I've been.

You're just so close," Morris said. It could have been deja vu Friday, May 22 for Arcanum. Rain was forecasted to fall in the early afternoon, so the game was moved to a noon first pitch.
