Kris Sparre, Kori Cheverie, and Carla MacLeod were voted PWHL Coach of the Year finalists.
The PWHL has announced that Kori Cheverie of the Montréal Victoire, Carla MacLeod of the Ottawa Charge, and Kris Sparre of the Boston Fleet were voted the league's three finalists for PWHL Coach of the Year. According to the league, "The PWHL Coach of the Year award is presented to the head coach whose contributions most impacted their team’s on-ice success throughout the regular season. " Cheverie, the league's reigning Coach of the Year, guided the Montreal Victoire back to a first place finish in th regular season earning 62 points.
Montreal also enjoyed a 16-game point streak, the longest in PWHL history, and while all votes were tabulated prior to the start of playoffs, Cheverie guided Montreal to the team's first Walter Cup title. Sparre is considered the front runner for the award this season after guiding Boston to a 62-point season tying Montreal, but finishing second due to tiebreakers. Most picked the Boston Fleet to finish last in the league this season, but Sparre helped Boston play a tight checking game, and the team was a start-to-finish contender.
The final nominee is Ottawa Charge bench boss Carla MacLeod. MacLeod helped Ottawa earn the fourth and final playoff spot before leading the Charge to their second straight Walter Cup appearance. MacLeod did it all this season missing multiple stretches while battling breast cancer.
Winners of all PWHL Awards will be announced on June 16 in Detroit. The PWHL awards are voted on by a committee of media and league staff. Carla MacLeod following Ottawa's Walter Cup loss
