Jaylen Brown in a Rockets Uniform? I’m Not So Sure How I Feel About That
With more and more hypothetical trades popping up, I’ve yet to see many I’m truly intrigued by. This proposal from Jed Katz might have the highest profile players yet, as seen on SportsIllustrated . After a decade of trade rumors, Jaylen Brown would finally be separated from his running mates in Boston.
He’d have Sam Hauser coming with him to play for the Houston Rockets. In order to make that happen, Rafael Stone would have to part ways with Kevin Durant and Dorian Finney-Smith, who each only played one season here. Obviously KD had a much greater impact and would be a much bigger loss for the franchise.
This theoretical trade also has Boston receiving three draft picks in exchange for their 29 year old star. That includes the 39th pick from this upcoming draft, as well as a first round pick in each of the two following drafts. It’s a lot to give up for a player who will be 30 years old by the beginning of next season.
It would also immediately put Houston in a win-now position, when I don't think the rest of the roster is necessarily ready for that. At this point, I’m valuing the growth and development of the young players, rather than trying to think you can beat OKC and San Antonio. Houston didn’t fare well against the top of the West in the regular season and are clearly a level or two down.
