Track holds moment of silence for Kyle Busch ahead of NASCAR Trucks race
NASCAR held a moment of silence for record-setting driver Kyle Busch ahead of the Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Tributes, heartfelt gestures and words have been circulating the NASCAR world after the sudden and shocking death of legendary driver Kyle Busch , giving a whole new meaning to Memorial Day weekend. Busch passed away at age 41 due to what his family called a "severe illness" that hospitalized him earlier in the week As it has for decades, NASCAR spends Memorial Day weekend at its home track of Charlotte Motor Speedway with three races in three days, beginning with the Craftsman Truck Series, Friday, May 22. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series is scheduled to hold its race Saturday evening, while the NASCAR Cup Series takes center stage Sunday night with the Coca-Cola 600, the series longest race.
The track held of a moment of silence Friday night ahead of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 to honor Busch as fellow drivers and fans in attendance removed their caps, recited prayers and shed tears in memory of the driver who holds the record for most wins in Truck Series history with 69. In additon to on-track activities, Fox Sports honored Busch prior to its coverage of the race on FS1 Friday night. Lead announcer Mike Joy narrated a tribute video to Busch that aired when they opened the broadcast.

His 234 total victories across NASCAR's top three national series are more than any other driver in history. The Busch family released a statement, in conjunction with NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing Thursday, May 21, regarding the passing of the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, husband, father and friend.
