Yellowjackets rally for quarterfinal softball win over CV

Alaina Brown went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI as host Oneonta, the three seed, overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat No. 6 seeded Chenango Valley, 10-3, in a Section IV Class A playoff quarterfinal game Thursday, May 21. Carley Mistler pitched four dominant innings in relief for Oneonta, giving up one hit, no walks, and striking out two.

Starter Jenevie Gallusser gave up five hits and two walks in three innings, with three runs aided by two Yellowjacket errors. However, she worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning, limiting the damage to two runs. Gallusser had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Natalie Tyler took the loss, giving up seven hits and four walks in five innings while striking out five. She worked her way through the Oneonta lineup well the first time, but the Yellowjackets started to figure her out the second time through the order and chased her from the game during their third cycle. Tyler also went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Trailing 3-0, Oneonta began to rally in the bottom of the fourth, started by a double by Mistler and ended by a game-tying single by Payton Little. The Yellowjackets then flipped the game with a five-run fifth and a couple of insurance runs in the sixth off reliever Abby Cron. Oneonta (15-6) plays at No.
