โ Red Sox (@RedSox) May 22, 2026 Story was placed on the 10-day injured list last week, but with the two-time All-Star sidelined for some time between six and 10 weeks, the team needs to figure out a more permanent solution at shortstop aside from slotting in Andruw Monasterio and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy revealed that the team " tentatively " plans for Marcelo Mayer to draw the start at shortstop on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins and will explore the potential for the 23-year-old to become their everyday starter at the position. "Tentatively planning right now on maybe getting him out there Sunday," Tracy said, as shared by MassLive's Chris Cotillo in a post to X on Friday.
"There's a little bit more work Flo (infield coach Josรฉ Flores) wants to do with him, but I definitely think you'll see more of him there. Does that mean he'll play there every single day? Maybe not, but we're definitely going to explore that.
