Fiorentina 1-1 Atalanta – Honours even as teams split points in final game Fiorentina and Atalanta shared the spoils in an entertaining final game of the season at the Artemio Franchi, with Roberto Piccoli’s first-half opener cancelled out by a Pietro Comuzzo own goal ten minutes from time to leave both sides with a point apiece. Fiorentina took the lead on 39 minutes when Marco Brescianini’s precise cutback on the goal line found Piccoli unmarked in front of goal, and the striker made no mistake to put the Viola ahead. Atalanta had created the better chances in the opening stages, Samardzic forcing two fine saves from Christensen inside the first 20 minutes and Raspadori wasting a golden opportunity early on, but it was the hosts who struck first.

Comuzzo own goal denies Fiorentina victory in entertaining Franchi finale The second half was more open, with both sides creating chances as the game ebbed and flowed. Atalanta were denied on several occasions by Christensen, most notably from Sulemana who was one on one with the goalkeeper before seeing his effort saved on 77 minutes. The equaliser came from an unlikely source on 82 minutes, Comuzzo, attempting to intercept, turned the ball into his own net to level the scoring.

Late substitutions from both benches could not alter the outcome, and the match finished level to close out both clubs’ Serie A campaigns. Fiorentina moved up to 14th with tonight’s draw , with Genoa and Cagliari able to eclipse them with a victory in their final games. Atalanta, meanwhile, already secured their 7th place finish in Serie A after their 1-0 defeat to Bologna , with just nine league defeats for La Dea all season.
