Yankees announce lineup today vs Rays in Gerrit Cole's season debut
Here's a look at the Yankees' lineup vs. the Rays on Friday as Gerrit Cole returns to the mound. Jose Caballero and Trent Grisham also return.
NEW YORK - Gerrit Cole arrives back in the Yankees' rotation on Friday night, and that's a great thing for Yankees Universe, having their ace return after a long rehab from Tommy John surgery. But while the right-hander will lift his team's psyche, he can't bat for them, too. This is a Yankees' lineup that has gone quiet again, further exposing serious production gaps at catcher and third base, and with captain Aaron Judge yet to fire near his MVP level.
And here come the well-rested, first-place Tampa Bay Rays to open a three-game set at the Stadium, with a 4. 5 game AL East lead over the Yanks. After Thursday night's 2-0 loss to Toronto, the Yankees optioned center fielder Spencer Jones and righty reliever Yovanny Cruz to Triple-A, in order to activate both Cole and infielder Jose Caballero (fractured right middle finger).
Caballero is back in the lineup tonight, against his old team, with righty Nick Martinez (4-1, 1. 51), off to a terrific start, pitching for the Rays. Here is the Yankees' lineup: Thereโs a Cole front coming ๐ฅถ #RepBX pic.
