South Carolina football and UNC agreed to cancel the home-and-home series scheduled for 2028 and 2029 as SEC, ACC shift to 9 conference games.

South Carolina football and North Carolina have mutually agreed to cancel the home-and-home series scheduled for the 2028 and 2029 seasons, the program announced on May. 22. The Tar Heels were scheduled to play at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on Sept.

2, 2028. The following season, the Gamecocks would have traveled to Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Sept. 1, 2029.

UNC leads the all-time series vs. South Carolina 35-20-4, but the Gamecocks have won seven of the last 10 meetings, dating back to 1988. The teams last met in Charlotte, North Carolina, to open the 2023 season with UNC winning 31-17 at Bank of America Stadium.

Both the SEC and ACC are moving to a nine-game conference schedule in 2026, which limits the number of nonconference opponents per season to three. Last October, South Carolina and Miami mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home series scheduled for the 2026 and 2027 football seasons, too. As part of the new schedule model, every SEC team will be required to schedule at least one high-quality non-conference game from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Notre Dame each season.
