Championship leader Kimi Antonelli topped the sole practice session for the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix on Friday. The Mercedes driver clocked the fastest time of 1 minute 13. 402 seconds, beating team-mate George Russell by 0.

142 seconds. Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari completed the top three. The session had a turbulent finish due to a red flag after Esteban Ocon lost control of his Haas and hit the wall.

There were previously two red flags during practice. The first one was caused by Liam Lawson, who came to a stop in the Red Bull at the exit of turn four. With 35 minutes left, the session was once again suspended after Alex Albon of Williams brushed the wall out of turns six and seven.

Mercedes have dominated the season so far, with Antonelli winning three out of four races and Russell taking the opening round in Australia. Qualifying for Saturday's sprint race is later on Friday.
