After a slow start to the season, the Red Sox elected to move on from manager Alex Cora, but also parted ways with hitting coaches Pete Fatse, Dillon Lawson and Joe Cronin amid the offense's struggles. Boston’s offense has lacked consistency this season, ranking second-worst in the league in runs scored and home runs. As the offense searches for consistent production, the Red Sox’s chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, revealed the team’s hitting philosophy under the new staff, which includes several staff members who were promoted internally from the minor leagues.

“It starts with swing decisions,” Breslow said on Friday, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “It’s making sure we’re swinging at the right pitches and not swinging at the wrong pitches. It’s giving ourselves the chance to get our best swings off on pitches before we get to two strikes and then making sure there’s an approach that comes alongside two strikes that involves battling our asses off to put a ball in play and find our way on base.

“If you were to distill it down, it’s to swing at strikes and hit them hard. I think that has been pretty consistent and I don’t think that’s terribly unique across 30 different teams. What separates teams is the ability to go out and execute on that.
