There appears to be a legitimate battle for the backup signal-caller position though. The Steelers return veteran Mason Rudolph, as well as 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard. Pittsburgh also selected Drew Allar out of Penn State in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Rudolph recently argued his case to open the campaign as the Steelers' second in command. "This is a veteran team. We’re trying to win now.
