Former Bills player turned Patriot compares Drake Maye and Josh Allen
Patriots fullback Reggie Gilliam, a former Bills player, is beginning to understand the Drake Maye and Josh Allen comparisons.
New England Patriots fullback Reggie Gilliam offered initial impressions on quarterback Drake Maye in the first episode of the second season of Forged in Foxborough . Itโs safe to say that the fullback has drawn a similar comparison as many NFL pundits and fans have as well. Gilliam was with the Bills organization when quarterback Josh Allen was really beginning to make a name for himself in the NFL.
He saw firsthand the type of development Allen was achieving and knew that the former first-round draft pick was going to be a great player in the league for years to come. There has also been an opportunity for Gilliam to watch Maye from afar in Buffalo. However, now that he's seen the 23-year-old gunslinger up close, he is beginning to understand some of the comparisons to Allen.
โI didnโt expect him to be as tall and as broad as he is," said Gilliam . "I thought he was a scrawny guy, but no, heโs actually pretty big. I know he had a lot of comparisons to Josh this past season in the MVP race, and, you know, his development as a player, and I believe him.
It seems right the way he's going. " Maye is on a strong trajectory after leading the Patriots to the Super Bowl in only his second NFL season. Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard recently reported that the team has been bullish on Maye behind the scenes heading into Year 3.
