According to the Associated Press , Busch was in a Chevrolet racing simulator in Concord, North Carolina, on Wednesday, May 20, when he lost consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The following day, the NASCAR legend’s family released a statement saying that Busch had been hospitalized with a “severe illness. ” He was preparing to race in the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend, but had to cancel. “Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” the family’s message shared on X read.

“He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation. ” However, just hours later, it was announced that he had passed away.
