Giants’ sign GM Joe Schoen to a contract extension
The Giants decision to stick with Joe Schoen longer may ensure the Eagles' continued grip on the rivalry.
The New York Giants made a decision that, depending on your zip code, lands very differently. As another weekend approached, it was a busy day for the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles , with a handful of days until the start of OTAs, made their coordinators available to the media .
Meanwhile, in East Rutherford, the Giants were busy extending their top executive. Per NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Giants have agreed to a multi-year extension with general manager Joe Schoen, signaling organizational confidence after what many viewed as a productive offseason. New York clearly believes the franchise is moving in the right direction, particularly after an encouraging NFL Draft haul and the arrival of John Harbaugh, who should absolutely make them more competitive.
This is a nice show of confidence in Schoen and the direction he is taking the Giants. Eagles fans and the Philadelphia media, however, may interpret this decision and announcement a bit differently. That isn't meant as lazy rivalry banter.
It's rooted in a fairly simple reality that applies across every profession, not just football. Better-run organizations tend to outperform poorly run ones. Leadership matters.
