Highlighting 8 Colts' position battles before OTAs begins
With OTAs about to begin, here are eight Colts' position battles to watch.
OTAs for the Indianapolis Colts will begin on May 26, marking the unofficial start of several positional competitions that will unfold throughout the summer. In this third phase of offseason programs, no contact can take place, but teams can do competitive team periods. Below is a quick look at the potential competitions taking place on the Colts ' roster.
Backup quarterback For now, Anthony Richardson remains on the roster. However, like last year, it doesn't seem to be a given that he will be the backup, presumably competing with Riley Leonard for that role. Backup running back Jonathan Taylor will lead the way, but DJ Giddens and Seth McGowan will compete for the RB2 role.
Who is WR3? Ashton Dulin, Deion Burks, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine should all be in the mix. While there will be a starter on paper at that position, all three players could fill that role in a by-committee approach by the Colts, with the matchups and in-game situations dictating who's on the field.
Will Jalen Farmer push for playing time? The Colts believe that Farmer can play tackle in addition to guard, setting the stage for him to potentially compete with either Matt Goncalves or Jalen Travis for snaps. Defensive end The starting spot opposite of Laiatu Latu is up for grabs.
