NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, one of the sport’s most notable figures, died May 21 at age 41, NASCAR announced. Busch was rushed to the hospital with a severe illness, according to his family, and did not recover. Kentucky was home to several big moments in Busch’s career, including multiple standout performances at Kentucky Speedway, where he was a frequent contender during the track’s years on the NASCAR schedule.

Over more than two decades in NASCAR, Busch became known for his aggressive driving style and success across all three national series, earning a reputation as one of the sport’s most competitive and polarizing drivers. “Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation," NASCAR, Busch’s family and Richard Childress Racing said in a joint statement.

Here's what to know about Busch and his career. Kyle Busch won several races in Kentucky Kyle Busch was a frequent winner in Kentucky during his NASCAR career. He won the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway, the Quaker State 400, in 2011 , and returned to win there again in 2015.

Over the years, he competed across all three races in Sparta and picked up wins in each at the track. One of his more notable Kentucky moments came in 2019, when he finished second in the Quaker State 400 to his brother, Kurt Busch. Busch also collected three Xfinity Series wins and two Craftsman Truck Series victories at Kentucky Speedway.
