This season, the San Antonio Spurs star finished third in the MVP race and became the league’s first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year. Now, after just 12 playoff appearances, Wembanyama has already forced his way into another remarkable piece of Spurs history.
Victor Wembanyama already ranks top 10 in Spurs playoff blocks Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty Images According to StatMuse, Wembanyama is already in the top 10 in Spurs history for playoff blocks, despite playing just 12 postseason games for the franchise. The Frenchman has recorded 48 playoff blocks, averaging four per game, a pace that shows how quickly he is rewriting San Antonio’s defensive record books. That dominance already produced one staggering milestone.
The 22-year-old recorded 12 blocks in Game 1 against Minnesota, setting a new playoff record in the play-by-play era. The previous best was 10, held by Mark Eaton in 1985, Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990, and Andrew Bynum in 2012. Some fans questioned whether a few of those blocks should have been ruled goaltending, but the official record still belongs to Wembanyama.
His next chance to add to that total comes this Friday, when the Spurs face Oklahoma City in Game 3 with the series tied 1-1. Every Wembanyama playoff appearance already feels like it could carry historic weight. With his length, timing and confidence, even routine defensive possessions can become Spurs milestones.
