'We need to be a meaner team': Texas A&M QB details offseason training

Yahoo Sports

For three weeks, Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed training at the D1 Training facility, detailing his progress and the team's "meaner" mentality in 2026.

The 2026 offseason is an important one for Texas A&M redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who enters his second full starting season after throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. A Tennessee native, Reed returned to Nashville for three weeks to work out at the D1 Training facility under D1 senior director of coaching Clif Marshall . Focused on building strength, adding healthy weight, and increasing his overall stamina to make it through the 2026 schedule healthy and focused, Marcel Reed's progress is evident in D1 Training's Instagram video, which shows various workouts and a stronger, notably larger Aggie QB.

Joining him during the three-week training period, senior safety Dalton Brooks, co-captain and tight end Micah Riley, and Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton also took part in the workouts. Already a proven leader, Reed's mentality has not changed, and according to Clif Marshall, his daily approach in the weight room stayed consistent, proving that working with Texas A&M S&C coach Tommy Moffitt over the past two offseasons has created a mindset that translates to any training facility, completely focused on accomplishing daily goals. “Marcel’s daily approach has been extremely impressive.

He already carries himself like a professional in the way he attacks every aspect of his preparation,” Marshall stated. “Beyond the work he puts into strength and conditioning, he consistently makes time for film study, stays locked in with his nutrition, and has even hired a personal chef during his time in Nashville to maximize his recovery and performance. He’s been outstanding in the weight room, and I give a tremendous amount of credit to legendary Texas A&M strength coach Tommy Moffitt.

" Marcel Reed's approach is similar to that of top-tier NFL quarterbacks, and in today's NIL era, his ability to hire a private chef to keep his nutrition goals aligned with his training efforts will lead to increased muscle growth in a shorter time. In terms of the mindset Reed is looking to instill in his team, embodying the program's culture Mike Elko and his staff have cultivated, especially from a physicality standpoint, is key. “We just need to be a meaner team,” Reed stated.
