West Ham coach banned for 2 games after Arsenal incident West Ham United goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa has received a two-match ban and a fine for his conduct during his team’s defeat to Arsenal earlier this month. Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images The FA have confirmed that West Ham United first-team goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa has been given a two-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine for misconduct, following their recent match against Arsenal. The FA alleged that around the 88th minute, Barbosa used offensive, insulting, or abusive language and/or gestures, leading to his dismissal.

It was then further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a match official after the game. Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images Barbosa admitted the charge, and an independent regulatory commission imposed the above sanctions following a hearing, with the written reasons for its decisions to be published in due course. West Ham were obviously unhappy with the VAR goal overturn at the end of the game, and that was likely the reason why Barbosa was incensed following the final whistle.

But the goalkeeper coach’s dismissal occurred prior to that incident, following a foul by Callum Wilson on Cristhian Mosquera. The infringement was clear on the replays, but the West Ham players and staff were likely unhappy as the foul happened away from the play, and most of them probably didn’t see it in real time. West Ham are obviously playing to stay in the top flight, needing a win and for Tottenham Hotspur to lose against Everton.
