John Hardin baseball players face charges for gun brought to away game
Radcliff Police charged two high school baseball players for the May 11 incident when their John Hardin baseball team traveled to a game in Louisville at Holy Cross.
Two Kentucky high school baseball players are facing felony charges after one allegedly brought a gun and ammunition onto his school bus for an away game. The gun, police told The Courier Journal, was found by Hardin County school administrators in one of the player's bags. Radcliff Police charged the two teens for the May 11 incident when their John Hardin baseball team traveled to a game in Louisville at Holy Cross.
A citation of the incident outlines that both teens were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property , a Class D felony punishable by up to five years and a $10,000 fine. They were also both charged with possession of a handgun by a minor , a Class A misdemeanor for the first offense or a Class D misdemeanor for the second offense. One of the juveniles was also charged with possession of marijuana , which was enhanced because of the presence of the weapon.
Since both are minors, Radcliff Police told The Courier Journal it could not release any other information or comment further. The baseball players' cases will be handled through the juvenile justice system. Radcliff Police previously told The Courier Journal they were exploring charges, in conjunction with the county attorney, against a 15- and 16-year-old, both John Hardin baseball players, "for violations that occurred in Hardin County," but would not pursue charges in Jefferson County since they don't have jurisdiction over the incident that happened in Louisville.
