Although the game was closely contested until the very end, it was the Jayhawks who secured the win with a walk-off hit in the tenth inning. Some fans criticized a moment during the quarterfinal involving Jayhawks hitter Augusto Mungarrieta, who hit a leadoff home run in the second inning, giving the team a 2-0 lead.

As he rounded the bases, he only flipped his bat near first base, drawing the umpires’ attention and displeasure from the Bears’ dugout. The umpire quickly intervened to prevent escalation. “Completely disgusting and over-the-top behavior by the Kansas dugout.

Good on the home plate umpire to keep things in line,” one fan commented . “People like watching college baseball bc of the excitement and celebrations. Not the best look, but its part of the college baseball culture now,” another fan commented .

“Wasn’t the dugout it was the late and completely egregious bat flip that drew his attention. Lucky he didn’t get ejected,” yet another fan commented . Some other fans found no issues with the bat flip and instead sided with the Jayhawks’ catcher’s home run celebration, calling it legit.

“Umpire got his feelings hurt on that bat flip,” one fan commented . “I’ll never understand the bat flip ordeal. Dude just hit a tank, carry the bat around all the bases if you’d like.
