A blown two-goal lead and a second-period scoring blitz by Colorado silenced Coachella Valley’s championship dreams, sending the Firebirds home as the Eagles soar toward the Conference Finals.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds have been eliminated from Calder Cup contention after a 3-2 loss to Colorado on Wednesday. The Eagles will progress to the Western Conference Final, and the Firebirds will head home for the summer. Jagger Firkus opened the scoring for Coachella Valle 4:13 into the first.

Colorado were unable to answer, and 2:30 into the second Ville Ottavainen added a second tally. Unfortunately, after that it was all Colorado. The Eagles notched three goals in less than six minutes to finish out the second period ahead 3-2.

The Firebirds attempted to rally in the third, but they could not get past Eagles’ goaltender Trent Miner. The third period was scoreless on both sides, and when the dust settled the Eagles took home the victor and will advance to the Conference Finals.
