It’s believed Alonso will have a say in transfers, and the Blues face a critical summer window, which they can’t afford to get wrong. Cucurella has two years left on his current deal, and it remains unclear if the 27-year-old will sign or be offered a new contract.
Reports have linked Cucurella with a move to Atletico Madrid, and the Spain international has made it clear he’d like to return to Spain one day. You would assume Alonso would want Cucurella to stay, but Law isn’t sure he’s the profile of wing back the new Chelsea boss likes. “I’m not sure he’s quite the profile of wing back, Alonso seems to like people who are very comfortable in possession rather than necessarily all action and all over the place,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.
“I’m just not sure Cucurella’s style of play and also potentially style of personality will suit what we know about and hear about Alonso. ” Cucurella is one of the only senior players at Chelsea, whilst he’s well respected in the squad, and losing him would be a major blow. The Spaniard has scored once and registered four assists in 49 appearances in all competitions this season.
