The Red Sox looked like a different team after Game 1. The first game of the series was more of the same as Boston scored three runs off nine hits and held the Royals to just one run on the night. The next night, the Red Sox lineup jumped all over the Royals' pitching staff.
Wilson Contreras batted an RBI single in the first inning. Caleb Durbin swatted one to center field to score another runner in the second. Boston hit a wall in the middle innings before expanding on a 3-1 lead and adding four runs in the top of the ninth inning .
