Iowa wasted a terrific start from Jordan Wicks , who tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Wicks struck out two and walked two. Luis Peralta hit a batter to open the sixth inning and after a stolen base, a walk, and an infield single to load the bases, a sacrifice fly scored the only run of the game.
Peralta’s final line was one run on one hit over two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Corbin Martin retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out one.
With no one on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, center fielder Kevin Alcántara walked. Then second baseman James Triantos and shortstop Owen Miller both singled. Alcántara tried to score from second on Miller’s single, but was thrown out at the plate in a controversial call.
