PREP ROUNDUP: No. 7 Rochester tops Cass to win TRC outright
The Lewis Cass softball team had a chance to secure a tie for the TRC championship with a win at Rochester on Wednesday night. But the Class 2A No. 7 Lady Zebras emerged with a 3-1 victory to win the title outright.
The Zebras (19-3, 9-0 TRC) completed a second straight perfect season in league play. The Kings (9-10, 7-2) finish alone in second place. Junior right-hander Bria Rensberger held the Kings to one run (none earned) on two hits, striking out 12.
She outdueled Cass senior right-hander Amma Fitzhugh, who held the Zebras to three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk, striking out seven. Ava Hubner had a single and run scored for Cass. Maddie Lynch added a hit.
Aubrey Wilson had a double and RBI for Rochester. Gabby Medina and Aubrey Miller each had a single and RBI. Brailyn Hunter added a single and two runs scored.
Rochester scored one run in the third, fifth and sixth to take a 3-0 lead. Cass answered with a run in the seventh before the rally fell short. The teams could meet on the same field next week as they are on the opposite sides of the bracket of the Rochester Sectional.
