Mize junior pitcher Holder McAplin threw a no-hitter in Game 1 of the MHSAA 2A series, leading his team to a 3-0 win over East Webster.

PEARL — Mize baseball coach Justin Ainsworth said he feels really confident when his junior pitcher Holder McAplin steps on the mound — and for good reason. McAplin pitched a no-hitter in Game 1 of the MHSAA 2A championship series as Mize (30-8) secured a 3-0 win against East Webster (35-8) on May 21 at Trustmark Park. "I finally got to that fifth inning, and I was like 'Dang, I got a no-hitter going,'" McAplin said.

"After that, I didn't really have a thought in my head. 'I'm like, dang, there's the last batter. ' And then there it was.

It happened real quick. " The junior right-hand pitcher is 10-0 on the season with a 1. 70 ERA and 108 strikeouts through 61⅓ innings pitched.

"He was really, really good tonight," Ainsworth said. "... His fastball was good.
