Editor's note: Read updates to Kyle Busch's tragic death here . NASCAR driver Kyle Busch died at 41 in North Carolina on Thursday, May 21. Busch was briefly hospitalized with a “severe illness," according to his family.

The family put out a joint statement along with Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR to confirm the driver's death. Busch was originally scheduled to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 24. The same event he won back in 2018.

Busch's last Cup Series victory was the Illinois 300 in June of 2023. He had four Top 15 finishes in 2026. Kyle Busch's life Busch made his NASCAR debut in 2001, racing in the Truck Series at 16 years old.

He competed in six races and produced two Top 10 finishes. He would have to pause the start of his national career until 2003, following NASCAR’s decision to change the minimum age requirement to 18. He would join his brother, Kurt Busch, as a competitor in the Cup Series in 2004.
