It was a thrilling day at Saranac Lake's high school track and field championships, where the Spartans under the lights swept the regular season with an impressive 8-0 record. The boys' team led by Braedon Waldron, Owen Dingman, Miles Frazier, and Hannah Hamel dominated the event slate with multiple wins across various events. Saranac Lake's Noah Thayer and Nolan Hamel also performed outstandingly in relay races, while Eve Liberty, Sarah Lavigne, and Alyse Liberty showcased versatility on both sides of the competition.
The girls' side was equally impressive, with Hannah Hamel winning three events including the triple jump and 100 hurdles, leading a quartet that dominated the section qualifying meets. Coach Cy Ellsworth from Saranac Lake expressed admiration for the Spartansโ performance, highlighting their dedication to training and achieving state-level success. The boys' team set new records in various relay races, while the girls' squad broke section records in all three of their relays.
On the opposite side of the competition, Peru proved dominant with multiple athletes winning four events each on the day. David Nwadike led the charge as the high jump and triple jump champion, along with a solid showing in the 110 hurdles relay. This victory marks another milestone for Peruโs Nighthawks, who have shown remarkable consistency throughout the season.
